Promise of the blue stone
Jyoti was a young girl who lived in a small village. She was very poor. Her clothes were usually old and torn, and she barely had enough food to eat. Despite this, Jyoti was kind and hardworking. She always dreamed of a better life and never lost hope, even in tough times.
One day, while collecting firewood in the forest, Jyoti got lost in the forest. The trees stood tall and dark, and the forest seemed endless. She tried to find her way back, but every direction looked the same. As the sun began to set, Jyoti grew scared and didn’t know what to do. She looked around nervously.
Suddenly, she heard a soft voice behind her. “Are you lost, young girl?” Jyoti quickly turned around and saw a strange figure. It was a young girl in a glowing white dress. Her name was Reena.
Reena spoke softly, but her pale face and floating figure startled Jyoti. “I am a ghost,” Reena said calmly, as though it was the most natural thing in the world.
Jyoti stepped back, her heart racing. “I’m just a poor girl. I have nothing. Please don’t harm me!” she cried.
Reena smiled kindly. “I don’t want to hurt you. I want to help you to find your way home. But in return, I need a promise from you. Will you help me someday when I need it?”
Jyoti thought for a moment. She was scared but also wanted to leave the forest. “Yes, I promise,” she finally said.
Reena reached out her hand, and Jyoti held it. It felt as cold as ice. “Follow me,” Reena said.
Reena led the way, and Jyoti followed her. They walked through the forest, and soon, Jyoti saw the edge of her village. She thanked Reena, and the ghost girl disappeared, promising to return one day.
Life went on, and Jyoti worked hard every day. She didn’t think much about her promise to Reena and started to believe she would never see her again.
But one quiet night, as Jyoti sat outside her small hut, she heard a familiar voice.
“Jyoti,” the voice whispered. She turned and saw Reena standing in the moonlight.
“I hope you remember your promise,” Reena said seriously.
Jyoti was shocked. She had hoped this day would never come. “What do you want me to do?” she asked nervously.
Reena’s face glowed with a strange light. “There is a rich old man who lives in a big house on the edge of the village. He has a blue stone that shines brighter than the stars. I want you to bring it to me.”
Jyoti’s heart sank. “You want me to steal it for you?” she asked, horrified. “But that’s wrong! I can’t do it.”
“You made a promise, Jyoti. I helped you find your way home. Now you must keep your word,” Reena said.
Jyoti felt trapped. She didn’t want to steal, but she also didn’t want to break her promise. She decided to think about it and asked Reena for some time.
The next morning, Jyoti went to the old man’s house. His name was Mr. Shankar. He was a kind, lonely man. He lived in a grand house, had a lot of money, but no family. Jyoti offered to work for him at his house.
Mr. Shankar agreed, and Jyoti began helping with cleaning, cooking, and small chores. Days turned into weeks, and Jyoti worked hard. Over time, Mr. Shankar grew fond of her. He admired her honesty and kindness.
One day, as Jyoti was cleaning the shelves in the living room, she saw the blue stone in a glass box. It was more beautiful than she had imagined, glowing softly like a star. She thought of Reena and the promise she had made.
Mr. Shankar noticed her looking at the stone.
“Jyoti,” he said warmly, “you have helped me so much. I don’t have much time left in this world, but I want to give you something special as a reward for your hard work.”
He opened the glass box and took out the blue stone. Jyoti’s eyes widened.
“This is my most precious treasure,” he said. “But I believe you deserve it. Take it, my child.”
Jyoti hesitated. She didn’t want to take something so valuable, but Mr. Shankar insisted. Finally, with trembling hands, she accepted the stone.
That night, Jyoti met Reena in the forest. The ghost girl’s eyes lit up when she saw the blue stone.
“You kept your promise,” Reena said, reaching for the stone. Jyoti gave it to her.
As soon as Reena touched the stone, something incredible happened. A bright light surrounded her, and her ghostly form began to change. Her white dress turned into a shining golden gown, and her pale face became warm and full of life. Reena was no longer a ghost; she had become an angel.
Jyoti was surprised and asked. “Reena, what happened?”
Reena smiled, her voice was soft and musical. “This stone was the last thing binding me to this world. Thank you, Jyoti.”
Tears filled Jyoti’s eyes. “But I thought you were angry with me. I thought you wanted me to steal it.”
Reena shook her head. “I wanted you to bring it to me, but it was up to you how to do it. Even in difficult times, you showed kindness and honesty. That’s why you succeeded.”
Jyoti felt warmth in her heart. She had been so worried about doing the wrong thing, but in the end, her good deeds had led to success.
“Jyoti, you don’t need to work so hard anymore. If you ever need anything, just ask me,” Reena said with a smile.
“No, Reena. I can’t repay your kindness,” Jyoti replied.
“You don’t need to do anything more for me. This was the last thing,” Reena said.
From that day on, Jyoti and Reena became close friends. Reena, now an angel, often visited Jyoti, guiding and protecting her, making her life better. Jyoti continued to work hard and help others.
The blue stone became a symbol of their friendship and the power of keeping promises. Jyoti knew that Reena was always near.
