Candy seller
Once upon a time, near a dense forest, there was a quiet little village where a kind man named Ravi lived. Ravi was a candy seller. Every day, he walked through the village streets with a big wooden box full of colorful candies. The children loved him because he told funny stories while selling candies.
Ravi wasn’t rich, but he was happy. His wife, Meera, helped him pack the candies every morning. They had two children who sometimes helped too.
One day, Ravi decided to sell candies in another nearby village. He had heard that the children there didn’t have anyone selling candies. Ravi thought, “This could be a good chance to earn more money.” His wife warned him that the forest near the village was dangerous, and he needed to be careful.
The next day, Ravi filled his box with colorful, sweet candies and started his journey. The trip to the other village was long, and he had to go through the forest. The trees were tall and thick, and the path was narrow.
When Ravi reached the village, the children ran excitedly towards him. They hadn’t seen a candy seller in a long time. In no time, Ravi sold most of his candies. The children were thrilled and clapped happily. Some of them had never tasted such sweet and delicious candies before. Ravi even gave a few candies for free to poor children.
In the evening, as Ravi was heading back home, it got dark in the forest. He wanted to reach home quickly and share the interesting stories about the village with his wife and kids. He was also happy because he had earned good money.
As he was walking, he suddenly heard a soft voice, “Brother, can I have some candy?”
Startled, Ravi turned around. Behind him stood a little girl. She was wearing a simple white dress, and her long black hair covered most of her face. She looked pale and was almost glowing in the dim forest light.
Ravi looked at her in surprise and asked, “Where did you come from, child? You should be home at this hour.”
The girl didn’t reply. She pointed at his empty candy box and said, “I want candy, brother.”
Ravi felt uneasy. He said, “I’m sorry, little one. I’ve sold all my candies. There’s nothing left. But I’ll bring some for you tomorrow.”
The girl kept staring at him and then whispered, “Come with me. I’ll show you a place where you can get more candy.”
At first, Ravi hesitated. There was something strange about the girl. But he thought she might live nearby and decided to help her get home safely. So, he followed her.
The girl led him deeper into the forest. The trees grew thicker, and it became very dark. Ravi’s heart started beating faster. “Where are we going, little one?” he asked nervously.
“Just a little further,” the girl replied without looking back.
Finally, they reached a clearing with an old, broken hut in the middle. The girl stopped and pointed to the door. “Please go inside,” she said.
Ravi didn’t want to go inside. The hut looked deserted and scary. “Why aren’t you coming with me?” he asked.
The girl shook her head. “I can’t go in.”
Suddenly, Ravi noticed something strange. The girl’s feet weren’t touching the ground. His blood ran cold. She wasn’t an ordinary girl—she was a ghost!
Ravi wanted to run, but his legs felt frozen. The girl whispered again, “Don’t be afraid. Go inside. You’ll find what you’re looking for.”
With trembling hands, Ravi pushed the door open. Inside, the hut was dark and smelled of damp wood. In one corner, there was a small table with a bowl of candy. The candies looked fresh and colorful, just like the ones he had sold earlier.
“Take them,” the girl’s voice came from outside.
Ravi didn’t want to touch anything, but he thought that taking some candy might let him leave safely. He picked up a few candies and turned to go.
“Take all of it,” the girl said from behind. “It’s for you and your family. Go home and share it with them.”
Ravi quickly filled his box with the candies and left the hut.
“Remember,” the girl said as she vanished, “don’t give these candies to anyone else. I will meet you again.”
Ravi started walking home, his heart pounding. He almost ran, but the way home seemed endless. Finally, he reached his house. It was late, and his wife and children were waiting for him. Ravi told them everything about the strange girl and the candies in the forest.
At first, his family was scared. But his wife thought the ghost girl didn’t seem harmful, and Ravi had returned home safely. They decided to eat the candies, as the girl had told Ravi to share them with his family.
As soon as they ate the candies, something strange happened. The ghost entered their bodies, and they began to float like ghosts. At first, they were scared, but then they started to enjoy it. They flew high in the sky, seeing the city lights, the village, and the forest below. The children laughed with joy—it felt like their long-time dream of flying had come true.
By midnight, they returned to the forest where Ravi had met the ghost girl. Ravi saw her sitting on a tree branch. Her eyes shone like stars. Ravi wasn’t afraid anymore and went closer to her.
He asked, “Why did you do this to us? How can we become normal again?”
The ghost girl smiled and said, “You are very kind. Your family is kind too. You care about children and even went to another village to make them happy with candies. I used to live in that village and waited for a candy seller, but no one ever came. You cared about those children, so I wanted to reward you.”
Ravi’s wife and children also came closer, and they didn’t feel scared either. His wife asked politely, “Please tell us, how can we return to normal? Is there anything we can do for you?”
The ghost girl smiled again and said, “You don’t need to do anything for me. Just keep selling candies to children. I wanted to make your children’s dream of flying come true, and that’s why I did this. By sunrise, your ghostly powers will fade. Until then, enjoy the experience.”
With that, she disappeared.
Ravi and his family enjoyed flying until morning. The next day, they were back to normal, but the magical night was a memory they would never forget.
